Summer is upon us—and with the changing of the seasons comes new opportunities to travel the United States as a travel nurse or allied health clinician! But which states are hiring in earnest this year? We’ve analyzed our summer listings and determined four states are seeing an increased need for travel nurses and allied health clinicians in summer 2024. While some are your traditional summer destinations, others are more unique areas of interest. Read on to learn more about where you can find travel healthcare jobs this summer.Â
California
Ever wanted to visit sunny California? This summer might be the perfect time to do so! We’re seeing increased interest from our clients in the Golden State for travel laboratory and medical imaging jobs, specifically medical laboratory scientist and CT technologist roles.
There’s an endless amount of places of interest in California, whether you find yourself working in populous Los Angeles or amid the state’s forested north. Take a day trip to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, or spend a weekend camping in Yosemite National Park. You’ll never have a lack of things to do when you take a travel healthcare job in California!Â

Alaska
Summer is the perfect time to visit Alaska, as the days are longer and it’s simply not as cold as it would be at other times of the year. We’ve been seeing a lot of need from clients in the Last Frontier, as we have clients looking for a diagnostic radiology technologist, social worker, and speech language pathologist that start this summer.
Taking an assignment in Alaska during the summer means you might be around in mid-August, which just so happens to be the beginning of the best time of the year to catch the northern lights. If you can’t see the aurora borealis, though, take a trip to Denali National Park and take in some of the beautiful natural scenery and landscapes—you certainly won’t regret it!
Idaho
Looking to spend your summer in a quiet, yet extremely beautiful, part of the country? We have been seeing increased need for travel nurses this summer in Idaho, also known as the Gem State!Â
While you might know Idaho for being associated with potatoes (it does grow nearly one-third of America’s potatoes), there’s a lot more to this gem of a state. When you’re taking an assignment in Idaho, try to make some time for some of the state’s natural wonders, such as Lava Hot Springs and the Craters of the Moon National Monument, which sports a lunar-like landscape created by volcanic eruptions more than 15,000 years ago.Â

North Dakota
To the east of Idaho is North Dakota, another state that we’re seeing a lot of need for travel healthcare clinicians in summer 2024. In fact, we have assignments that start this summer for travel nurses and a diagnostic radiology technologist.Â
Also known as the Peace Garden State, North Dakota is home to some scenic landscapes, as well as some amazing art and culture destinations. Consider checking out Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot for some replicas of ancient Norwegian buildings, or the Plains Art Museum in Fargo for an impressive collection of fine art.Â
